Migraine Treatments & Information For Migraine Suffers

 

Women are known to be the ones that suffer from migraines the most, but men and children are affected too. Men and children are not likely to go to a doctor for the symptoms they encounter from a migraine so there is less documentation about them.  Knowing the truth about migraine information is extremely important and huge factor when it comes to migraine treatment.

Some develop a rapid pulse rate and high blood pressure for no understandable reason, some also get hot flashes & nausea. Eye burning symptoms occurs in some people too. Shortly thereafter is when you develop the worst headache you ever had. For some the pain starts behind the right eye and on the right side of your head. Others might start on the opposite side of the body. Some just start out with the whole body seeming to shut down in pain, or maybe we are just wishing for our bodies to shut down!

People speak of a migraine like they are nothing, but until you start having them yourself, you just don’t realize that a migraine is not an ordinary headache. Dealing with chronic migraines is more of a challenge than ever imagined. Your whole world can be affected by this horrific disease that really has no explanation as to why certain people are attacked and others won’t ever get a slight headache for their entire lives. You will learn to deal with the attacks to the best of your ability. There are changes that I took that seemed to help. For example, try to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night, find a way to put yourself on a schedule and stick to it when at all possible. Avoid stressful situations, like rush hour traffic. Maybe you can talk to your boss and get a shift with odd hours or get a new job that is willing to work around a shift that you know will put you in a calm driving experience each day. Eat right! Take your vitamins daily, again as close to the same time each day as possible.  I know what you are thinking, sounds as if we are going back to our childhood days, well you are probably right! We were healthier when our parents stood over us and made us do what we were suppose to do, but keep in mind this is what has worked for me. Drink lots of water. Drinking water fast seems to relieve the pain. I once went to a Nutritionist and he had me drink  1/2 of a 12 oz. glass of water as fast as I could, wait a few minutes then gulp down the remainder, to my surprise within minutes he asked how my head felt and the pressure was much easier to cope with. In fact almost gone. Don’t go without caffeine, and remember only a moderate amount is needed. Too much caffeine is bad for you. Back to the vitamin subject, take your supplements with food so you won’t be sick to your stomach. I usually have crackers with me everywhere I go. They have become a blessing in disguise!

After an initial exam by your doctor or local hospital you will most likely see various doctors.  Only when you have been seen by a neurologist or headache specialist will you begin to receive the answers and help you have been screaming for.

Find a specialist right away. Not just a neurologist, but a headache/migraine specialist. Listen to that specialist. Give the medications and/or therapy a try no matter how bizarre it sounds. They have spent alot of their lives researching for a cure, most know what they are talking about. If your Specialists is off the chain with too many absurd requests and you feel like they are a quack, then find yourself another one. Try alternative therapies like herbs, acupuncture, a chiropractor, breathing techniques, etc. Be sure to inform your specialist of everything you are doing to self help yourself. Especially, if your self treatment is working for you!

Start yourself a journal or as some call it a daily Diary. The diary should consist of what you eat, your daily environment, odors that you might encounter each day, sleep and rest times, exercise, etc. The reason for this diary is so that you can look at it to see if you can find the cause of your pain. This information could be very helpful to your physician. Maybe even being able to avoid your migraines altogether by finding out what triggers them.
