Acupuncture For Pain Relief
The pain that headache and migraine sufferers endure can impact every aspect of their lives. Acupuncture can offer powerful relief without the side effects that prescription and over-the-counter drugs can cause. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine have been used to relieve Headaches and Migraines, as well as their underlying causes, for thousands of years and is a widely accepted form of treatment for headaches in our society. There are acupuncturists that specialize in the treatment of headaches and migraines and can help you manage your pain with acupuncture and Chinese herbs alone, or as part of a comprehensive treatment program.
Acupuncture causes the body to release pleasant, happy chemicals into the body called endorphins. The endorphins are natural opiates, which relieve pain and increase a person€™s sense of relaxation and well being. They can give a person a “natural high€ similar to the feeling we have at peak experiences in our lives. This is one of the reasons that acupuncture is so useful in the treatment of many types of addictions. Acupuncture also encourages relaxation by loosening tight muscles. A person can leave a session feeling as if they had a good, deep massage. Many patients walk into their first session dreading needles and walk out of their first session feeling as if they are floating on a cloud.
Studies have proven the effects of Acupuncture..
Acupuncture improved the symptoms of migraine without aura significantly more than any type of pharmacological therapy.
In one of the largest studies of its kind to date, a team of researchers looked at the effectiveness of acupuncture verses a variety of drug therapies in treating migraines. The results, published in The Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine showed that patients treated with acupuncture experienced fewer migraines, suffered no side effects, and missed fewer days from work. The researchers also found that acupuncture is more cost effective. Since the early seventies, studies around the globe have suggested that acupuncture is an effective treatment for migraines and headaches.
A clinical observation, published in a 2002 edition of the Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine, of 50 patient presenting with various types of headaches were treated with scalp acupuncture. The results of this study showed that 98% of patients treated with scalp acupuncture experienced no headaches or only occasional, mild headaches in the six months following care.
